I must admit that the feedback that I have been getting on both The Whisper of God website and The Whisper of God FaceBook page (www.facebook.com/TheWhisperofGod) has been overwhelming and very humbling.
For those members of our FaceBook community that haven’t yet visited the web site for The Whisper of God, there is a little slideshow that runs when you are on the home page. The captions on the pictures are as follows:
- God is with us everyday
- And always is speaking to us
- Not in a loud booming voice
- But in a whisper
- That we must learn to hear
The other day someone asked me how I came up with the name The Whisper of God for the site.
My answer (and one which causes some people to look at me a little funny when I tell them) is that one night, in the middle of the night, I was awoken with a calling to buy the web site name TheWhisperofGod.com. As a matter of fact, five different web site names came to me that I felt I needed to buy. They were all pretty good names and I didn’t think there was any chance that any of them would be available. So I stayed in bed debating with myself about whether I should get up and go to my computer or not. After a few minutes of going back and forth I got up, went to my computer, and was amazed that all five names were available.
I feel that TheWhisperofGod.com, a wonderful and fascinating gift, was given to me that night by God.
As I think back, it’s funny how this came to me: one night while I was sound asleep. God didn’t hit me over the head or come to me in a shining light in my room; rather, He came to me quietly. He prompted me to action. He put in front of me an opportunity that was mine to take or leave. He left the choice up to me.
God came to me that night in a whisper. And God comes to most of us in a whisper.
In 1 Kings 19:11-12, God came to Elijah and told Elijah the following:
The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.
God was in the whisper.
Sure, God has appeared to people before in the form of a burning bush, a voice from the heavens, or other dramatic ways. But, I don’t think this is God’s normal way. For us to hear God, we must learn to hear Him in the way He talks to us the most: we must learn to hear The Whisper of God.

Just a comment. Listening to God is like fine tuning a radio, to pick up a good station. Sometimes you have to move it to another room, to get the best reception. At other times, you have to really tweek the knob back and forth to pick up the station you are looking for. Still other times, you have to just be quiet and try to absorb the content that you are getting. You find fascinating things in the mouth of God.

I followed a whisper to this site. I’m not sure as to why, when dealing with whispers the answers to those questions will eventually be revealed. Keeping ones self open to anything is required to see things unfold.
