This is so true. I’m very….incouraged with your different words. I truly appreciate you and your ministry. Keep the word coming!
This lesson is not an easy one, but can and will be accomplished with effort and persistance.
In the evening after everyone has gone to bed, I like to relax and pray and talk to God, read the word and sing to him a new song, one from my spirit. Thats when God draws near I go to bed refreshed and filled with Gods love and his perfect Peace. A great time to do this no distractions no phone calls just me and God.
I wake up every morning and talk to god thanking him for waking me and my family, i have some trying me and my family but i always tell myself that god want bring you to what he want get you through. i fell sad sometimes that i wish things can be diffrent in my life but i also know that the lord as brought me a mighty long ways and he not done with me yet. So i pray to him every chance i get to say thank you lord thank you!!!!!
I thought that was encouraging just to think it isn’t just me with “mind wandering” during quiet time.
I will actively sit quiet now, thanks Elmer.

When I wake up every morning, first thing is to give thank to God for the light of the new day and ask Him, that give me the strenght to help anyone that are in need. Even is I have to go out early in the morning I wake up with sufficient time to be in worship with God. I can be with people around me, and if is my time to be with God, I even don’t hear any other thing around me, that took me years of practice, but I accomplished it.
I trully appreciate your ministry and God Bless You Always.

Hi Elmer… this was very helpful. I find myself constantly praying to God, giving Him thanks and praise but I don’t spend any quiet time with Him to allow Him to speak to me. My mind does constantly wander and now I too will practice actively sitting quiet with God. Thanks again, my friend in Christ.

When I am alone with my Lord God and my mind starts to wander, I ask my Jesus to guide me and keep my mind on our Father God. For my Jesus to answer the door, Satan is trying to get in my talk with Lord God. Yes, He does help me..I go to sleep in the comfort and peace of my Jesus Chrsit.
I FELT YOU WHERE TALKING TO ME,AND I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU THANKS FOR THIS SIGHT I VISIT IT EVERYDAY. GOD IS GOOD AND I’M SO BLESSED TO KNOW HIM. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR MISSION TO BRING PEOPLE TO GOD.

I started journaling and that is one of the times I can thank God for his Grace and Mercy. He has brought me along way. And not done with me yet. Thank you Jesus.

Because of your message on Tuesday, 7/27/10, I read Psalm 91 and knew I needed to shut everything down for awhile and spend time in that secret place…God Himself. He IS the secret place and we are protected there. It does take a conscious choice on our part and it can be a battle because of distractions, but it’s well worth it. Thank you for your encouraging, thought-provoking messages, Elmer. God bless you.

I feel like this message was sent to me from God through you!!!! Every time I start praying, I find my mind wandering in different directions. It’s hard to concentrate and it makes me feel guilty. From this day forward, I will pray that God will help me concentrate and devote my time to Him and Him alone. With His help, I know I can do it!!! Your daily messages are a true blessing to me and I want to thank you for taking the time to share them. May God richly bless you and your ministry for your devotion.
i loved it. it is so true, ive been sitting with every thing off just thinking how full of god i feel, how wonderfull i feel. i seem to want to be like that every day.

Solitude, Listening to God are all such sustaining of the faith attributes ..so often not taught in church, Small Groups, Discipleship training. I often wonder why not?? Using Peter Scazzero’s ” Emotionally Healthy Spirituality and Daily Office” have helped me greatly.
Once you begin the effort for Quiet Time portions of the day .. the benefits are great and accetable..
We went last evening to hear a family group of singers. Two sisters 18 and twenty thrilled our hearts with their inspired singing. One new sweet melody told what I surmise is an awesome truth, that being that some of greatest prayers never become audible. “Nary a Sound” but our soul reaching, sometimes in desperation, out to our Lord Jesus!
I listened to you this morning about distraction from prayer , and i thought i just went through this very thing just a few minutes ago. The devil is always lurking to stop us from talking to our Father, but then we have to be that much stronger, and praying harder and more each day. Thank,s so much for the inisperation you give . Your friend in CHRIST .
While your words sound so comforting to the natural ear, the Spiritual ear is offended. When GOD’s people are called or need to pray, location or noise has no effect on the Spirit of GOD and the Holy Ghost takes 100% control ,unless you don’t have the Holy Ghost then you play the carnal game and become a man pleaser for money’s sake.
I am just joinin in with you guys and so far am liking it. As a new beginning in Christ it has been so hard and frustrating for me. I know we are suppose to read his word everyday, but when I try to I get confuse. My mind is distrated by the littlest thing. I prayer and ask God to help me get through this, but it feels like he has forsaken me…..it’s been very hard for me to get connected with God and I feel like I want to give up. I know deep down in my heart that I want to Feel his present and to hear his voice, I just can’t go back to the life I lived, I refuse to live that ugly, hurting, rejectful, low self esteem , insecure life.

You are so right. It’s hard to tone out the sounds of the world. But I say early morning and late night is the best time. I also think when at church and someone is leading a prayer, folks really need to be silent and listen to what the spirit of God may be saying to them. Multitasking is cool, but you can’t hear two people talking at the same time.

hi when i talk to god or pray to him i do get distacted sometimes but i start over! but then i think that it is kinda like fighting the devil who is trying to keep you from speaking to the lord and savior!so i speak louder in my mind and then i am more able to concentrate! thankyou for listening!

Your voice and encouragement has been helping me tremendously these past few months. I want to say Thank You so very much. I listened to the audio Distractions in Prayer, and it is so difficult for me to sit quietly, even though I continue trying, each time I do, I cry so that I fall as sleep only to wake knowing I never finished my Prayer time. Your ministry is my life line now and will never let go and someday I hope, my heart will mend enough to pray strongly once again. God Bless You.
I find what you are saying is very true. I use to have the biggest problem being able to concentrate or trying to think of what, who, or why I was praying. I feel God is everywhere and DO BELIEVE he knows our every move before we take it. However, when you pray I do feel it should be quiet. This time should be between God and yourself or whomever is praying with you. I also believe in what the Bible does say,I’m not “big” on right scriptures or exact words, but the more that gather in the SON’s name…the powerful the prayer is. I seen what prayer can do many of people in my lifetime and I am only 34. My cousin was dying(lifeless),but God gave her breath back. I was born with Spina Bifida, was told I would never walk or would most likely be in a wheel chair… I’m walking w/a limp, but am able to WALK. I have been off of bladdar medications and antibiotics for at least 12 years, get an occasional urinary tract infections, but haven’t had to be hospitalized for it again, since 1994. God isn’t going to do what we tell him to do or when we ask… all the time. He is OUR CREATOR and he knows when and HOW he wants to run our lives. When our prayers aren’t being answered, their is a reason for it… he is then, also teaching us to have patience or whatever we need to be taught at that time.
